The History of Lingerie
Lingerie is the term that is used to describe women’s fashion undergarments. It is
derived from thee French word ‘lin’ which means linen. The lingerie is designed in such a way that it appears to be exotic as well as attractive, making women look truly good and sensuous. They typically incorporate materials such as silks, nylon, satin and lace which appear to be sensuous and feel good at the same time. The concept of lingerie being appealing to people is a relatively recent phenomenon. During the first half of the 20th century, women wore undergarments to alter their shape; first came the corsets and they were followed later by the girdles or bras.
Women also wore them for hygiene purposes and for modesty. At that time, women’s underwear were very large and bulky, but as times have changed the sizes of women’s undergarments have certainly decreased to just bare minimum. The sexual appeal of lingerie has slowly developed over the years and become an important part of a women’s closet. In the 21st century, the lingerie industry has expanded with designs outnumbering that of the outerwear. The boutique called Faire Frou Frou, which is an ancient phrase that means “show it off” heralds this philosophy by making lingerie a necessary accessory having details such as straps , satin lace etc.
